My Current State

I haven’t written much this year. Not compared to the past six years. And I’m sorry I haven’t read much of my fellow bloggers’ posts. You all have wonderful, interesting posts. It’s nothing personal. I’m just feeling off.

I am currently sitting on my porch swing. I used to write a lot from this old swing. That was back when it was painted red and sitting on the porch of my little brick home in a little hick town of about 500 residents. I’m thinking that number included the exuberant amount of feral cats as well. Much to my dismay.

Now my swing is painted a milk chocolate brown and sits on the front porch of my cabin. What a lovely view of the pond and woods and nature.

I haven’t written much from here because I write mainly inside the house or cabin. I’m sitting out here today though, listening to the wind blow through the trees and the distant sound of a train passing through town. Finally, a day of no rain.

My special writing place. The cabin is filled with wildlife creatures, which give me and my grandchildren much joy.
I love possums. 😍
Andi, the squirrel. From “Funny Farm” with Chevy Chase. (You’d need to watch the movie to understand.) And one of my many skunks.
My beautiful stone in the window.

We were hit by the derecho that blew through Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio last week. We lost our most favorite trees. I find it terribly sad to lose them. Our trees mean quite a bit to me and D. But our home, barn, and cabin were not damaged from what we can tell. Hopefully, nothing will leak later. The hail stripped the field of corn south of our driveway. The poor leaves are just shredded. Many people, though, suffered much more than us with the relentless storms, heavy rain, wind, and flooding.

Our beautiful cedar trees, destroyed…home to numerous birds, including hummingbirds.
Thankfully, the trees missed the cabin.
Our Lord Sycamore took a brutal beating. I posted about this tree recently. Not sure how much more it can take. Nature frequently teaches us by example, the will to live.
D examining his favorite tree. Well, at least the sunset was pretty.

On another note: I’ve had pneumonia this summer which has tried to make a comeback for a second round. There’s no rhyme or reason as to why this is. And I’m plagued with physical issues which cause me pain…pretty much on a daily basis. But I’ve found a new doctor, and between him and the helpful things I’ve been learning online, I have high hopes for great for healing. Actually, I feel I have made progress already.

But, I’m not gonna lie. All of this has dampened my spirit and robbed me of my inspiration to write. It’s difficult to keep my chin up when I’m fighting, fighting, fighting to live pain-free on a daily basis.

Enough of that.

I am very blessed. All I have ever desired in my life is here with D. I have everything I need, plus more. There are some obstacles to overcome, mostly all physical, but I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

This is my current state.

With that being said, I still have the desire to write but I will need to dig deep to find my inspiration.

So this has been another off summer for me. I believe it will turn on again very soon. Maybe by fall, perhaps? My favorite season…

I am hopeful.

I’m a mom of six amazing kids. They have blessed me with six grandchildren. I love the outdoors. I am a country girl through and through. There I find a closeness with God and am inspired. Writing is my passion.

  1. Beautiful post!

Happy you are feeling better and writing again. Been praying for you and hope the health issues are soon in the rear view mirror. Worried about you and the massive rainfall hitting Indiana. Saw it was worse South and East of you, but your damage was pretty bad

Praying for your health so that you will have plenty of time to spoil the grandkids. Imagine the memories they will have of you and the warmth of the cabin!

Sometimes life long friends come from the people you meet at the junior high bus stop.

    1. Thank you, Bruce. I sure am grateful for your prayers. Thank you for always being there for me. I’m so happy that we met all those years ago at the bus stop. You will always be family to me. ♥️
