James 4:14, ESV: yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.

We take time for granted. We think we have time.
But do we?
I’ve lost many loved ones way too soon. I have seen firsthand how short life really is. I have felt that pain of loss long before I ever thought possible. Death to me was something out of my reach. Something only to suffer in old age, if ever.
But I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Time is not on our side. Death is very real. And we have no guarantee of tomorrow, or even of an hour from now.
Time is of the essence.
It’s time to:
…take that trip.
…call your mom.
…plan that date.
…right a wrong.
…say what needs to be said.
…wear that dress.
…or, those cool shoes.
…play with your children.
It’s time to:
…have “that” talk.
…visit a neighbor.
…or, hold a wrinkled hand.
…say, I’m sorry.
…buy those flowers.
…sing to a baby.
…go for a walk.
…help someone.
It’s time to:
…ease someone’s pain.
…donate time or money.
…not procrastinate.
…take care of yourself.
…meditate.
…listen to a child.
…get your affairs in order.
…pay it forward.
It’s definitely time to:
…honor God.
…be grateful for those who love you.
…make amends.
…pray
…be mindful of your words.
…get your life in order.
…praise Jesus.
…repent.

This post isn’t meant to be a downer by any means. Quite the contrary. Every day we have is a blessing. And within each day there is an opportunity of some sort to do something wonderful. A kind word goes a long way. Some words last a lifetime so make them good. A helping hand, spending time with a child, or offering a shoulder to cry on are all ways that enrich not only their lives and our’s as well. Our life can have meaning and purpose just by acknowledging and taking advantage of the opportunities that present themselves to us on a daily basis.

This post is not about loss but about living. It’s about living fully within the timeframe we are allotted…however long, or short, that may be. It’s about trying to do our best, acknowledging when we are wrong, and getting back up again and again and again. It’s about blessing one another with godly sincerity and in brotherly love. It’s not about traveling this journey all alone or in our own wisdom. We need each other.
Absolutely.
We need each other.

I guess that’s why they say live every day like there’s no tomorrow.
