“Ring it again, Dan!”
A couple of years ago, my brother was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia. It was a very scary time for him when he was finally diagnosed. For all of us. His numbers were so extreme that he shocked the doctors. After trial and error with a different chemo drugs, days, weeks, months of feeling poorly, moments of wondering…yesterday Dan rang the “bell of remission” at the hospital.

This bell sounds to let everyone know that a cancer patient has been blessed with remission. After my brother rang the bell, someone shouted, “Ring it again, Dan!” Then a few more began to shout for him to ring it again. So he did.

Dan will always have leukemia and he will have to take a daily chemo-type drug, but today we celebrate with him. He has really gone through a lot these last couple of years, with a few life-altering events that filled his days. But today we hear the bell ring on his behalf.

My little brother is awesome. He has such a great attitude about life and living, but also about death. He’s a blessing in my life. My only wish would be that our parents could see these moments in our lives.
